The Health Ministry has issued new instructions saying all people who have travelled to northern Italy in the past 14 days should self-isolate.
Previous instructions applied only to some areas in northern Italy (Veneto-Venice, Lombardy-Milan, Emilia-Romagna-Bologna and Piedmont-Turin) .
In a written statement, the epidemiological monitoring unit of the Health Ministry said that the coronavirus checks have been expanded to apply to all passengers who have visited areas of Italy north of Pisa, Rimini and Florence in the past 14 days.
People who have travelled to those areas are asked to remain at home, to self-monitor and to contact a doctor if they show any symptoms of a respiratory infection (temperature, cough, difficulty breathing) within 14 days of their return, to remain at home and to call the special toll free 24 hour help line on 1420.
The ministry recalled that checks are also in place for people who have travelled to South Korea, Iran, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
