Coronavirus: MoH issues instructions for vulnerable groups

The Health Ministry announced on Friday measures for the vulnerable against the new Coronavirus.

The announcement said that according to the latest scientific data, the individuals most at risk are ones belonging to vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and people with chronic diseases (chronic respiratory diseases, heart patients, cancer patients, kidney patients etc)

The high risk groups are:

  1. All people aged 65 and over

And:

2  Infants aged over six months and adults who have among other the following conditions

  • Chronic respiratory conditions
  • Chronic heart condition
  • Diabetes or other metabolic condition
  • Chronic kidney or liver condition
  • Neurological conditions or neuromuscular conditions
  • Sickle cell anaemia
  • Immunosuppression (hereditary or acquired)
  • Transplant patients
  • Children and teenagers who require long term treatment with aspirin
  • Individuals with BMI >40 kg/m2

3 Pregnant women irrespective of how advanced their pregnancy is, women who have just given birth, women who are breast feeding

4 People who come into close contact with infants under six months or who care for people who are high risk

5  People working in the provision of health services and in accommodation centres for refugees

People that fulfil the above criteria should strictly adhere to the announced preventive measures against the spread of Coronavirus, with emphasis on the following:

  • Avoid contact with people presenting symptoms of a respiratory disease
  • Avoid unnecessary travel, especially to high risk areas or countries
  • Follow hand hygiene and avoid touching the face with hands (eyes, nose, mouth)
  • Comply with any long-term medical treatment they receive as per their doctors’ instructions
  • Avoid areas of social gatherings and events
  • Immediately contact their doctor if they present symptoms of a respiratory disease
  • Avoid visiting patients under treatment
  • Avoid visiting hospitals and other medical care premises without a serious reason
  • If living in the same household with a suspect Coronavirus case, maintain at least 2 metres distance
  • Good ventilation of common areas
  • Disinfect and keep common areas clean
