Coronavirus: Ministry publishes list of Nicosia schools that will close for three days

The Education Ministry has published the names of the schools which will close until Friday as a precaution because of the coronavirus. The decision was taken by the Council of Ministers this morning.

Meanwhile, in a joint announcement the University of Nicosia, the European University and Frederick University said that following the recommendation of the Ministry of Education and out of an abundance of caution, they have decided to suspend operations from tomorrow, Wednesday to Sunday, March 15.

The schools are in the Nicosia district, both public and private, and includes kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools.

They will close from tomorrow until Friday, March 13 inclusive.

All private kindergartens in the Nicosia district and all tuition centres will also close as will the centre for individuals with multiple disabilities Irida and the Anemone centre, the ministry added.

At schools which will remain open, teachers are urged to immediately alert head teachers if they spot any suspect cases or symptoms of the virus. The head teachers will then alert the ministry.

School parades for the March 25 (Greek Independence Day) are cancelled.

All excursions and other events planned at the school until March 31 are postponed.

The operation of afternoon and evening programmes of the ministry (musical schools, sport schools, state institutes, educational centres, optional all day schools, afternoon and evening programmes of technical schools and the school and social entry actions are also suspended.

The ministry concluded by saying that all school personnel must comply with the instructions of the Health Ministry.
