Coronavirus: Energy Minister self-isolates after trip to Italy

Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has remained at home after travelling to northern Italy in line with recommendations to travellers from high risk countries to self-isolate.

The news was revealed by government spokesman Kyriakos Koushos on Alpha TV.

The minister’s two children who had travelled with him are also at home.

Philenews contacted the minister who said that he was in good health and was working normally from home.

The Health Ministry’s epidemiological monitoring unit had announced over the weekend that the coronavirus checks have been expanded to apply to all passengers who have visited areas of Italy north of Pisa, Rimini and Florence in the past 14 days.

People who have travelled to those areas are asked to remain at home, to self-monitor and to contact a doctor if they show any symptoms of a respiratory infection (temperature, cough, difficulty breathing) within 14 days of their return, to remain at home and to call the special toll free 24 hour help line on 1420.

The ministry recalled that checks are also in place for people who have travelled to South Korea, Iran, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
