Coronavirus: Bases say no plans to close Pergamos crossing point

There are currently no plans to close the crossing point at Pergamos, a British Bases spokesperson told the Cyprus News Agency on Thursday following the decision of the Turkish Cypriot authorities to close two crossing points.

One of them Strovilia, is in the area of the Eastern British Bases at Dhekelia. The other is Limnitis.

Moreover the spokesperson noted that the authorities of the British Bases are working closely with the Republic of Cyprus authorities to limit the threat of COVID-19 and anyone entering at Pergamos from the northern Turkish occupied areas or flying into RAF Akrotiri are screened in line with Republic of Cyprus policy.

The SBA spokesperson said that after confirmation that the Turkish side  will close the crossing point at Strovilia at 6pm “the Sovereign Base Areas Administration can confirm there are currently no plans to close the crossing point at Pergamos.  We keep our processes under review and continually monitor the situation. ”

“The SBAA is working closely with the Republic of Cyprus authorities to limit the threat of COVID-19 and anyone entering from the north at Pergamos or flying into RAF Akrotiri are screened in line with Republic of Cyprus policy,” the spokesperson concluded.
