Coronavirus: A round-up of the latest developments in Cyprus

Another 21 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday in the Republic of Cyprus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 116, while one more tested positive in the Turkish-held north raising the total number of cases there to 40. The Republic of Cyprus also counts one death reported on Saturday.

The President announced a lockdown on Monday night via a televised address banning any unnecessary movements from 6 pm on March 24 until April 13. Click here for the businesses that will close and those that will remain open under the new decree.

Meanwhile, the President is being tested for Coronavirus as a precaution.

The Health Ministry told the public not to stock up on medicine and to only buy what they need as there is no reason for concern.

The government is drafting measures to protect employees, the self-employed, small and medium-sized businesses and those whose income is affected from the Covid-19 outbreak.

New measures have been taken at Nicosia and Larnaca hospitals (the latter being in near lockdown) after a nurse and a patient tested positive for Covid-19, and Paphos hospital said it would remain closed on Tuesday after a doctor, a nurse and a cleaner came out positive.

Paphos hospital received some good news on Tuesday as a big batch of tests carried out on its staff came out negative.

In the meantime private hospitals placed themselves in the services of the state to help combat the epidemic.

In the early hours of the morning, a very ill crew member aboard an Italian cruise ship was brought to shore  for urgent medical treatment. The patient was taken to Limassol Hospital and the cruise ship continued on its way.

Our police did 2,246 checks from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning for adherence to government decrees and found seven violations, while UNFICYP said it has stepped up measures to protect peacekeepers.
