The Minister of Justice announced on Saturday that police have so far conducted a total of 6,201 checks for compliance with the Ministry of Health’s decrees on Covid-19.
“It’s important that we all take the decrees seriously as the enemy is sly and dangerous. We all have an obligation to strictly follow all instructions issued to contain the spread of the virus.
“Any violation of the decrees is punishable by both imprisonment and a fine. Our aim is not to punish but our priority is to protect society. I therefore call on everyone to fully comply with the decrees and stay home,” he said.
Earlier he announced via Twitter that he gave instructions to police to step up the checks and asked citizens to help police enforce the law by reporting any violations that come to their attention by calling 1460 or their nearest police station.
