CMA suspends doctor’s licence for three months

The disciplinary board of the Cyprus Medical Association has suspended the medical licence of a doctor for three months after finding him guilty of  conducting an unauthorised clinical study using double the permitted dosage, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Thursday.

It said the doctor, who has not been named, was also ordered to pay €12,100.

The doctor was found guilty on four charges. The first concerned the carrying out of a clinical study on patients using omega 3 fatty acids at double the permitted dosage without securing approval from Cyprus’ National Bioethics Committee.

The other three related to articles he published in newspapers and magazines with the results of the ‘study’ in a way which that went beyond giving basic information on medical issues to promoting and praising his skills, knowledge, services and qualifications.

His licence was suspended for three months for the first offence. He was fined €2000 for each of the other three offences and ordered to pay €6,100 in costs.
