Cloudy today, showers and possibility of dust over the weekend

It will be mainly cloudy  today and over the weekend, with showers and the possibility of dust on Saturday and Sunday and temperatures a little below the seasonal average.

In its early morning weather bulletin, the Met Office said weak high pressure and a moderate to strong air steam are affecting the area whereas weak low pressure are expected from Saturday.

Friday will be mainly cloudy, initially with high cloud, while temperatures will rise to 14 C inland, around 18 C on the west coast, around 16 C on the remaining coasts and 9 C in the mountains.

Tonight will be mainly cloudy. Temperatures will fall to 8 C inland, around 12 C on the coast and 4 C in the mountains.

Saturday will be partly cloudy and at intervals cloudy with scattered showers and light snowfall in the highest Troodos peaks at night.

Sunday will be partly cloudy with scattered showers, mainly inland and in the east and snowfall at intervals in the highest Troodos peaks.

There may also be light dust in the atmosphere.

Monday will be mainly fine although locally there will be increased cloud at intervals.

Temperatures will remain at the same levels over the weekend at a little below the seasonal average except for the west coast where temperatures will be average for the time of year.

Temperatures will edge up on Monday, mainly inland and in the mountains, to close to the seasonal average.

The depth of snow on Troodos Square at the time of issue of the early morning weather bulletin was 55 cm.

There is ice on Prodromos-Troodos road  which is open only to four wheel drive cars or those equipped with snow chains, police said.

The other roads leading to Troodos as well as a number of other mountains roads are open but slippery.

Drivers are urged to be particularly careful, to drive slowly and keep a safe distance from other vehicles,

Because road conditions in the mountains are constantly changing because of the wintry weather, the public is urged to stay updated by consulting the police app and web page.
