Chlorakas victim autopsy 18 days after the murder

The autopsy on the body of 20 year old Syrian man murdered on a Chlorakas beach on April 10 will take place today, 18 days after the crime, due to limitations imposed by the Coronavirus outbreak, philenews reports.

Citing scientific reports, the newspaper said that due to the virus remaining active for several days after death, it was decided to hold the procedure today at the Nicosia Hospital morgue.

Eight Syrian men are in custody as suspects for the murder, and a ninth Syrian, also in custody, is expecting trial at the Criminal Court set for June 3.

Another two men from Syria aged 22 and 25 are still wanted by police, who are suspected of stabbing the victim to death and then discarding the body in a reed bed.

According to the police, the nine men in custody also actively participated in the murder, while they also contributed to the disappearance of evidence and the transport of the two wanted men to Nicosia so that they could escape to the occupied territories.
