Breaking news: Natalie Christopher found dead in Ikaria

Natalie Christopher, who was reported missing in Ikaria on Monday, has been found dead near her hotel, philenews reports.

The British Cypriot astrophysicist was reported missing by her partner on Monday.

Her body was found in a ravine in the Katafygi area about 1.5 kilometres from her hotel.

A huge search had been underway by land, air and sea since Monday to find the 34 year old scientist.

The body was spotted by a volunteer fireman.

According to Greek TV the area where she was found matches the description she had given on the mobile telephone when she spoke to her partner to tell him that she was out for a run.

Christopher, an astrophysicist from London who resides in Nicosia, was reported missing by her partner after she failed to return from a run on Monday morning.

A search operation began on Monday afternoon involving Greek police, the fire brigade and a helicopter, a police spokesman said.

Christopher’s disappearance prompted a massive campaign on social media with friends pleading for information on her whereabouts.

Well known for her peace activism, Christopher campaigned for more women in under-represented scientific fields and ran summer camps to get more girls into sports.
