The operation of boats in the sea off Paralimni and Protaras — particularly as regards control of effluents — was discussed on Monday the sidelines of a meeting held at the Municipality of Paralimni between Paralimni Mayor, Theodoros Pyrillis, and the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Natasa Pilides.
Representatives of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping as well as the Beach Inspector of Paralimni Municipality, Giorgos Economou, also attended the meeting.
Discussions focused on the further development of the maritime area of the Municipality. Pirillis referred to the discharge boats’ sewage tanks in the area, highlighting the increased need for more effective control over their delivery. He said specific safeguards should be laid down regarding the way the sewage is delivered by coastal vessels, with the Deputy Minister responding positively to the Mayor’s request.
It is to be noted that further issues of the management and maintenance of the governmental boat quay in Protaras were also discussed, as the state has not yet carried out maintenance works, while operating regulations are still pending.
