Blood Bank in plea for urgent blood donations

The Ministry of Health’s Blood Bank on Tuesday informed the public that reserves of blood products are dangerously low despite the great effort to recover stocks being put forth.

Unfortunately the recovery of the big gap that was created due to all blood donations in schools and universities being cancelled during the covid-19 lock down in spring has been difficult, it added.

This resulted in Cyprus entering the difficult summer season without the necessary supplies, it also said.

At the same time, public health safety and protection measures taken due to the pandemic have resulted in an increased number of blood donors being excluded.

The Ministry appeals to all blood donors to actively participate in urgent calls but also advises those who have travelled anywhere outside Cyprus recently to avoid doing so for a period of 28 days.

In addition, those presenting symptoms of flu or any clinical respiratory illness and people who came into contact with a confirmed or suspected corona virus case are also advised to on observe the 28-day restriction.

The public is called to participate in blood donations this week that will take place as follows:

TUESDAY AUGUST 11:

1. Nicosia

– Engomi station from 7:30 am to 8pm

 

2. Limassol

– Ayios Georgios Havouzas Church from 7:30 am to 8pm

 

3. Larnaca

– New ward on 3rd floor of Larnaca General Hospital, from 7:30 am to 8pm

 

4. Paphos

– Blood Donation Station in Church of the Apostles Paul and Barnabas Hall, Ellados Street, from 7:30am to 2:30pm

 

5. Famagusta

– Blood Donation Station in Panayia Church Hall in Liopetri, from 7:30 am to 7pm

 

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 12:

 

1. Nicosia

– Engomi station from 7:30 am to 8pm

 

2. Limassol

– Ayios Georgios Havouzas Church from 7:30 am to 8pm

 

3. Larnaca

– New ward on 3rd floor of Larnaca General Hospital, from 7:30 am to 2:30pm

 

4. Paphos

– Blood Donation Station in Church of the Apostles Paul and Barnabas Hall, Ellados Street, from 7:30am to 7pm
