Today will be mainly fine with temperatures reaching 40 C inland, 32 C on the west and south coasts and in the mountains and 34 C on the east and north coasts.
The Met Service has issued a yellow alert for extremely high temperatures that is in effect from 1 pm until 5 pm, warning that there are some health risks during this time amongst vulnerable people like the elderly and the very young.
Tonight will be mainly fine with temperatures edging down to 23 C inland and on the east and south coasts, 20 C on the other coasts and 18 C in the mountains.
Tomorrow, Sunday, will be mainly fine with temperatures remaining around the same levels as today.
Fine weather is also expected on Monday and Tuesday but temperatures will gradually edge up to reach above the average levels for the time of year.
