Advisory team member reports receiving threats to police

A member of the government’s advisory committee on the coronavirus outbreak has received threatening phone calls, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Wednesday as she condemned the threats as totally unacceptable.

Speaking at the start of the daily press conference on the coronavirus outbreak, Margarita Kyriakou said that Dr Leontios Kostrikis — who with Dr Marios Loziou analyses the day’s results — was at the police station to report the threats.

She said that on behalf of Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou she wanted to convey his condemnation.

“It is completely unacceptable that people who are contributing with their knowledge and expertise should be threatened in anyway,” she said.
