Larnaca Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced Pantelis Panteli, 27, to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime.
The Limassolian admitted that while serving a prison sentence in Dhekelia on June 7, 2017, he conspired with two other people to traffic 5.786 kilos of cannabis.
The charges followed the arrest of a Greek man at Larnaca Airport who, on arrival from Athens, was found to have 5.786 kilos of cannabis in his suitcase. He had travelled from Munich to Athens where he was given the drugs to bring to Cyprus, based on instructions given to him by telephone by an individual in Athens and an individual in the Netherlands.
He consented to be followed by the drug squad as he delivered the drugs to specific locations in Larnaca. A meeting was then set up, where police arrested another man who said that he was going to give money to the first man based on instructions from ‘Pantelis’ who was in prison.
The accused has two previous drug convictions. In passing sentence the court said that drugs were a danger to society.
