More trees have fallen victim to fencing work at schools, this time at Ayios Stylianos Gymnasium in Strovolos, philenews reports.

It said that 26 cypress trees, some 10 metres tall, were felled to make room for fencing as part of new safety measures at the schools which were decided after the abduction of two boys from a Larnaca primary school.

Residents in the area said that rather than just trim those trees that may have impeded the fencing work, authorities had just cut them down.

Another 78 trees were felled at Latsia primary school for the same reasons recently at the suggestion of the civil engineer, the site added.
