Some 2000 health professionals such as nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, clinical psychologists and clinical dieticians will be swelling the ranks of the General Health Scheme (GHS) as from June.
The lists for the professionals to register will open in April and intense negotiations are expected over the next 15 days between the Health Insurance Organisation and the health professionals’ representatives.
Thorny issues include remuneration and how beneficiaries will be referred by doctors. Also on the agenda is home care.
One dispute revolves round psychiatric nurses and whether they will remain under the state.
Phileleftheros reports that the Health Insurance Organisation is ready to change plans so as to include home visits by psychiatric nurses into the GHS. It also appears ready to include some of the services from midwives.
